Alesis Transactive Wireless

Alesis Transactive Wireless

It was with disappointment that we heard the news that Alesis were to discontinue their incredibly popular Transactive Mobile.  For several years it’s been a real favourite with many of our customers, ranging from Zumba class teachers to buskers.  Whilst there are now several other similar products from different manufacturers out there, the Alesis was the first of its kind and it built a solid reputation for being a great little performer and selling at a price that didn’t break the bank.

So we were excited to hear that Alesis were to plug the gap in their offering with the all-new Transactive Wireless.  At first glance, it looks the same and there are indeed many similarities.  The newer model is almost the same weight and size, has the same size 8” driver and benefits from an internal battery.

We thought we’d take a look at some of the differences between the discontinued model and its replacement.

Battery life: Alesis have replaced the battery with a new high performance model and the manufacturer claims that it can provide up to 50 hours continuous use.

Wireless: The original Transactive Mobile had an iPod dock and this proved incredibly popular.  Obviously, only those with iPods could take advantage of the docking feature and everybody else had to use a lead to connect their audio source.  The Wireless functionality of the new generation of Transactive allows product to be used ‘lead free’ with any device capable of streaming audio via Bluetooth.  This means the device isn’t only suitable for use with iPods but can also be used with iPads as well as many tablets, phones, android devices etc.

USB charging dock:  You’ll note that in the marketing pictures, an iPad is appears to be docked on top of the Transactive Wireless in a similar fashion to the way iPods were docked on the Transactive Mobile.  However, the new model is actually a USB charging dock and will work with any USB compatible device.  Your device can therefore be charged directly from the Transactive Wireless whilst your music is streamed via BlueTooth.

At the time of writing, Pro Audio Centre is selling the Transactive Wireless at an introductory price of £199.
